The Memorial Mass (sponsored by Community Board Six in the Bronx) is scheduled to begin at 7pm and end at approximately 8pm.  There will be a reading of the names of the 87 victims of The Happy Land Social Club Fire, which took place early Sunday morning on March 25th 1990 at approximately 3:38 in the morning.

On that day (a late Saturday night/Sunday morning) was the Happy Land Social Club FireTragedy, where  Julio Gonzalez–A Cuban refugee–set fire to the only available exit in the unlicensed social club “Happy Land Social Club” (at 1959 Southern Boulevard in the West Farms section of the Bronx) after an argument with his ex-girlfriend, Lydia Feliciano, who worked as a coat check girl at the Happy Land Social Club.  The fire trapped most of the people partying inside  killing 87 people.  Firefighters revealed that it was actually the smoke from the fire that killed everyone, not the actual fire itself.

Of the 87 victims in the fire, 59 were Honduran.  42 of the 59 Hondurans were Garinagu.  (Garifuna plural).  The Happy Land Social Club was located at 1959 Southern Boulevard in the Bronx.

Typically, there is a procession from the Church to the Memorial which is located on Southern Boulevard and East Tremont in the Bronx.  It takes place AFTER The Memorial Mass.
