Readers should also note that this cultural event is the culmination of the  efforts made to Garifuna-nize young Garifuna American women as each participant becomes soaked in aspects of Garifuna culture as part of their preparation to compete in this unique cultural pageant.

These young Garifuna American ladies learn about the Garifuna Language, Garifuna Food (preparing hudutu), Garifuna Clothing, Garifuna Customs, Garifuna History, etc as part of their Garifuna-nization process.  They are also subject to lectures regarding Garifuna Spirituality, Garifuna Music as well as Workshops on Public Speaking and properly Presenting yourself in Public and the Workplace.

In many instances, these young Garifuna women (who are mostly born and raised in the United States) are NOT well-versed in aspects of Garifuna culture due to American acculturation and assimilation so this approach to Garifuna-zising these young women is a creative alternative.
