Both fighters showed plenty of energy and aggression, although it appeared signs of ring rust was evident as Mr. Eddie Gomez appeared tired in the later rounds of this dynamic fight.  However, Mr. Gomez won by unanimous decision after a hard-fought ten-round fight. After earning the vacant IBF North American Welterweight Title, now Mr. Gomez can add CHAMPION to his name.

Mr. John Karl Sosa didn’t agree with the judges’s decision and felt he had dominated Gomez.  He vowed to come back with a vengeance and prove the judges wrong.  Perhaps, a rematch will take place in the future.

As for Mr. Gomez, this fight took place at the same location where he received his only loss (against Francisco Santana), The Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.  I’m sure that winning here helped him earn some redemption.

As is explained after the fight in the video below, winning this championship will help Mr. Eddie Gomez be ranked in the top 15 of welterweight Boxers of the IBF (International Boxing Federation).  Getting ranked makes Mr. Eddie Gomez become eligible to not only fight other ranked contenders in his weight division but also become eligible for a chance to fight for a WORLD Championship Title.

Below is video of the fight.  Do you agree with the judges decision?

Buidumeibei (“Congratulations” in the Garifuna Language) to Mr. Eddie Gomez on winning the IBF North American Welterweight Title.
