Upon posting this on Facebook, a woman named Norma Hill asked for some clarification on the Garifuna way to say December. She asked, “Lugumu or Lugumuchün?”

.

I responded by saying “Lugumu” and included a photo of a page detailing the Days of the Week and The Months of the Year in the Garifuna Language.

.

Norma Hill responded that she knows of “Lagumuchün Irumu or Lugumuchün Hati” for December. Lagumuchün meaning End or Final in Garifuna, but she realizes that things change. Lagumuchün Irumu for December makes sense though as it means End (of) Year in the Garifuna Language.

UPDATE with Correction

.

I was corrected earlier today regarding how to say, “Welcome, December” in the Garifuna Language.

.

My grammar in this instance was off. You Say, “Buidu lan Lachülürü, Dusu Hati” to say Welcome, December.

.

.

.

Upon getting the correction, I had to repeatedly say the phrase about 50 times before I got it right.

.

.

For me, it’s tricky pronouncing any Garifuna Words with the umalat Ü. It’s not a sound in the English language and I have to get my tongue and throat used to speaking that sound.

.

.

As I continue learning to speak the Garifuna Language, I find that the best strategy for Language Learning is to listen and repeat.

.

At it’s root, Language Learning is about Mimicking sound patterns. The more comfortable you get with doing that, the better off you will be.
