Dangriga, Belize — The Garifuna Youth Music Initiatives (GYMI) After School Program and The Garifuna Arts, Medicine, Agriculture and Education (GAMAE) Non-Profit Organization Present their “Heremu Wabuiduri” Garifuna Recital Concert.

Garifuna Recital Rehearsal

This Garifuna Recital will feature performances from Students of:

Sacred Heart RC School

Holy Ghost RC School

Anglican Primary School

Methodist School

This Garifuna Recital will take place at Sacred Heart RC School, Parish Hall, Dangriga, Belize.

.

The Recitals will take place on SATURDAY, April 5th 2025 and SUNDAY, April 6th 2025 at 4pm.

.

Admission is $3 for Adults and $1 for Children. Senior Citizens 75 Years Old or Older can attend for FREE.

Garifuna Youths Music Initiatives (GYMI) is an after-school music program dedicated to music education. Children are taught to read and play music instruments.

James Lovell, Garifuna Music Artist

Jason Guerrero, Music Teacher

Led by Garifuna Music Artist, Mr. James Lovell and Music Teacher Mr. Jason Guerrero, their stated mission is to nurture and develop the musical talents of Garifuna Youth, starting in Dangriga, Belize and eventually expanding this program throughout Southern Belize and ultimately to all Interested Children throughout Belize. Mr. James Lovell is a Garifuna Music Artist of Belizean Garifuna Heritage. Born in Independence, Belize and raised in Dangriga, Belize, he’s known for, among other things, his innovative approach of using Music to teach the Garifuna Language. Below is a 2012 video from his teaching youths the Garifuna Language through music.

The Garifuna Youth Music Initiative (GYMI) was founded in early 2024 in Dangriga, Belize by Mr. James Lovell, Jason Guerrero, Karol Ellis, Lina Bernardez, Daniel Cayetano, Lucio Enriquez, Josh Arana, Eleanor Bullock, Gangi and Rebecca Castillo.
