Santa Elene de Uairen, Venezuela: Venezuelan Medical Authorities, Venezuelan Media and Brazilian Media have announced that Doctor of Belizean Garifuna Heritage, Dr. Said Isani Lopez passed away on Monday, October 25th 2021.

Dr. Lopez has joined the ancestors at the relatively young age of 41 years old. A cause of Death has not been announced.

According to the Facebook Page of Venezuelan Radio Station, Mas Network, 92.9 FM, Dr. Said Isani Lopez was found lifeless at his residence in Santa Elene de Uairen, Venezuela.

According to that statement as well as another statement from the Hospital, Dr. Lopez worked at Rosario Vera Zurita Hosipital in Venezuela.

Born on February 4th 1980, Dr. Lopez’s Facebook profile lists his hometown as Punta Gorda, Belize.

In 2001, Dr. Said Isani Lopez took part in an initiative by Cuba’s Fidel Castro to provide FREE Medical School Education to Students across Latin America and The Caribbean.

This initiative provided interested students with a six year medical education in exchange for practicing medicine for six MORE years in underserved towns back home.

Students from The United States of America also took part in this initiative, which American Authorities labeled a “Cultural Exchange” at the time.

Dr. Lopez began his medical education in 2001 at Cuba’s Latin American School of Medical Sciences. I am unable to find much more information about his medical education at this time.

Mirtha Arzu, an American of Honduran Garifuna Heritage from The Bronx, and a classmate of his at Cuba’s Latin American School of Medical Sciences, described Dr. Lopez as a very humble and down to earth Human Being.

In January 2013, Being Garifuna reported that Doctor Sanjay Gupta of American Cable Television Network, CNN interviewed Dr. Said Isani Lopez, but that article has disappeared.

In addition to working in Venezuela, Dr. Lopez also worked in Brazil. According to his Facebook profile, Dr. Lopez listed that he worked at The Ministerio de Saude (“Ministry of Health” in Portuguese). I do not know what Brazilian Hospital Dr. Lopez worked at.
