2023 Memorial Mass for Co-Founder of Garifuna Settlement Day in Belize to take place in Brooklyn

Brooklyn, NY – The Annual Memorial Mass for Garifuna Civil Rights Leader, Mr. Thomas Vincent Ramos, will take place on SUNDAY, November 5th 2023.

Officiated by Pastor Andrew Nuñez, a Mennonite Garifuna Minister from Belize, but living in New York City, This Memorial Mass will take place at The Brooklyn Peace Center (a.k.a Believers Mennonite Garifuna Ministries) at 2:30pm.

Mr. Thomas Vincent Ramos (a.k.a TV Ramos) was a Garifuna Civil Rights Activist and Leader.

.

He was a Co-Founder, along with Pantaleon Hernandez and Domingo Ventura of Garifuna Settlement Day in Belize.

.

In Belize, Garifuna Settlement Day is both an Official National, Public and Bank Holiday throughout the country and takes place on November 19th. It is the only country where it has been designated as such.

.

Born on September 17th 1887 in Puerto Cortes, Honduras, Mr. Thomas Vincent Ramos eventually moved to Belize in 1923.

.

As a Garifuna Civil Rights Leader, Mr. Thomas Vincent Ramos also formed other initiatives that helped Garinagu throughout Belize.

.

In 1924, T.V. Ramos founded the Carib Development Society, which helped people who were sick and also provided financial assistance to families needing to bury their loved ones.

.

In 1926, he registered as a member of The Arrival Fund Committee, which was created for the benefit of all Caribs in Central America.

.

Mr. Thomas Vincent Ramos lived a productive life, and became an Ancestor on November 13th 1955. Every year since 1956, a Torchlight Parade is held in his honor in Belize.

As noted in the beginning of this article, this Special Annual Mass is scheduled to be officiated by Belizean Garifuna Mennonite Minister, Pastor Andrew Nuñez.

Pastor Andrew Nuñez is a Executive of The Garifuna Council of Evangelical Churches.

.

On December 15th 1991, Pastor Nuñez was Installed and Licensed as a Pastor.

Pastor Andrew Nuñez founded Believers Mennonite Garifuna Ministries on March 13th 1993.

On October 28th 1995, he formed The Evangelical Garifuna Council of Churches.

The 2023 Memorial Mass for Mr. Thomas Vincent Ramos will take place at Brooklyn Peace Center (a.k.a Believers Mennonite Garifuna Ministries) 23 Marcus Garvey Boulevard, Brooklyn, NY 11206 J Train to The Flushing Avenue Subway Station in Brooklyn.
