Punta Gorda, Belize, Central America – The National Garifuna Council presents The 2023 Miss Garifuna Belize Pageant.

In this Cultural Pageant, Teenage Girls compete for the Crown of Miss Garifuna Belize.

The girls in this Cultural Pageant represent various towns and/or villages in Belize.

The 2023 Miss Garifuna Belize Pageant will take place on SATURDAY, November 4th 2023.

.

It will take place at The Punta Gorda Sporting Complex in Punta Gorda, Toledo, Belize, Central America and is scheduled to begin at 6:30pm.

.

The 2023 Miss Garifuna Belize Pageant is but one of a series of events that lead up to and culminate in the Annual Commemoration and Celebration of Garifuna Settlement Day, which is an official National Public and Bank Holiday in Belize.

Having seen much of Last Year’s Miss Garifuna Belize Pageant, I have a good sense as to what it will consist of.

There is an Introduction, where the Young Ladies speak to the Audience in the Garifuna Language and give a brief Biography of themselves. Here, the Ladies must demonstrate proficiency with the Garifuna Language.

There is a Quiz Portion, where the contestants answer questions about aspects of Garifuna History and Culture.

.

And finally the Talent portion. Here, they act out or mime specific aspects of Garifuna culture. Typically, they demonstrate a Garifuna Dance.

We here at Being Garifuna wish the Young Ladies the best in this unique Cultural Pageant. Last year, I was able to watch this Cultural Pageant on Facebook. Hopefully I will be able to do the same this year.
