Dangriga, Belize — On Monday. April 28th 2025. The Garifuna Youth Music Initiative (GYMI) launched it’s new Guitar Program at the Ignacia Cacho Public Library in Dangriga, Belize.

The Program was opened Garifuna Music Artist and Educator, Mr. James Lovell (who also co-founded the Garifuna Youth Music Initiative) with Lessons by Guitarist and Instructor, Jason Guerrero.

The announcement of this Guitar Program comes mere weeks after the success of the Garifuna Youth Music Initiative Ensemble’s Recital and Performance during the Opening Ceremonies at the 2025 Belize Band Fest.

Four Students have been accepted into the GYMI Guitar Program. They are: Estefani Chacaj, Tyshae Arzu, Amryn Rowe, and Marlynn Rodriguez. They have have demonstrated interest in learning to play guitar and musical potential.

Guitar Lessons are held twice a week. The Guitar Lessons take place on Mondays and Thursdays from 4pm to 5pm at The Ignacia Cacho Public Library in Dangriga, Belize.

The Garifuna Youth Music Initiative extends gratitude to Rodell Castillo and The Melisizwe Brothers for their generous donation of Guitars and Accessories, which helped make this new chapter in musical training possible.

With an eye on continued expansion, The Garifuna Youth Music Initiative has acquired a range of wind instruments (French horns, flutes, clarinets, and trumpets) Thanks to Donations from supporters Mr. and Mrs. Colville Young Jr, Pastor and Mrs. Wayne Lopez, Sellis Records, and Jason Guerrero.
