Taught by Garifuna Language Teacher, Milton Guity Sr, this weekly course will go over the basics of having a conversation in the Garifuna Language.

Building Garifuna vocabulary, developing Garifuna grammar, learning about Garifuna sentence structure, as well as the cultural context behind the Garifuna Language are all explored in this course.

This weekly Garifuna Language Course is scheduled to take place over eight weeks.

What is the History of This Garifuna Language Class?

This Weekly Garifuna Language Class has been in existence for over ten years at the headquarters of Central American and Garifuna Social Service organization, Casa Yurumein (a.k.a. Hondurans Against AIDS Inc) in the Bronx.

Mr. Milton Guity Sr is from Corozal, Honduras and hopes to resurrect the usage of the Garifuna Language as it currently isn’t spoken by many people.

The Coronavirus and the mandates that followed afterwards forced the formation of an Internet alternative to learning to speak the Garifuna Language.

Generally, the course material centers on the standard Garifuna Language book, “Conversemos En Garifuna” by Honduran Garifuna Linguist, Mr. Salvador Suazo.

How Do I Sign Up For This Garifuna Language Class?

People interested in attending this Garifuna Language course via Zoom are encouraged to call Mr. Guity Sr at (646) 591-7095 so that he can arrange potential classes by being mindful of people’s schedules.

Classes will be video conferences held via the Zoom application, so having a desktop computer or smartphone with Internet access will be required to attend.

Classes will be organized according to the Garifuna Language Level of the students assembled, (Beginner, Intermediate, etc).
