Do enough people know where the Annual April 12th Garifuna Arrival Day Celebration will be?

Honduras, Central America – Yesterday, I came across a video from the Honduras Tourism Board regarding the Annual Garifuna April 12th Arrival Day Celebration.

This annual celebration, commemorates the day when Garifuna People arrived in Honduras after being exiled from their native country, St. Vincent Island by the British after losing to them in war.

The Garifuna people, in a convoy of 9 ships, arrived on the shores of Roatan on April 12th 1797.

They petitioned Spanish authorities to be allowed to move to the Honduran mainland, Those willing to risk moving again were allowed to do so a few weeks later.

According to the video presented by the Honduras Tourism Board, The 2023 Garifuna April 12th Arrival Day Celebration will take place in Corozal, Honduras.

Every year, another Garifuna town is selected where this unique celebration takes place. I do not know how long these official celebrations have taken place.

The 2023 Miss Garifuna Honduras Beauty Pageant is also taking place in Corozal, Honduras this year.

For 2023, The theme is celebrating 226 Years of the Presence of Garifuna People in Honduras. Take a look at the video below for more information. The video is in Spanish.

I have not kept track of the Honduran Garífuna towns where the April 12th Arrival Day Celebrations have taken place over the past few years.

I know of Punta Gorda, Roatan being one site. But, overall, I haven’t logged that information. I also have not seen it anywhere else.
