ABOUT The International Honduran and Central American Parade Committee

.

The International Honduran and Central American Parade Committee was founded in 1996 by Mr. Pablo Gomez (Parade Founder and President) .

.

Parade Founder, Mr. Pablo Gomez

.

Mr. Gomez and a committed collective of Central American Migrants worked together to start a Parade for the Central American Diaspora who are no longer in their native countries.

.

They also wanted to expand awareness and appreciation of Central American culture in the New York City Metropolitan Area.

.

In 1997, The Organization acquired its First permit allowing them to have a Parade.

.

The Parade Route was initially in various parts of The South Bronx.

.

The Parade Route eventually settled on beginning at East Tremont Ave and Southern Boulevard, the site of The Happy Land Social Club Fire Memorial.

.

Parade Participants then walk south on Southern Blvd/Crotona Parkway until they turn onto Boston Road when they reach 174th Street.

.

Participants continue walking South on Boston Road until they reach Charlotte Street where they make a right (Go West) onto Charlotte Street and enter Crotona Park.

.

Crotona Park is where The Central American Independence Festival takes place. The Festival has taken place in Crotona Park for as long as I have attended and my first time attending The Central American Independence Festival at Crotona Park in the Bronx was in 2009.

.

The First Time I attended the Central American Independence Parade in the Bronx was in 2010.

.

In 2009, Evelyn Arauz-Chamorro (Vice-President) replaced Mr. Pablo Gomez and became President of the Organization in the Process. She along with IHCAP Board Members have run the Organization since 2010.

.

IHCAP President, Mrs. Evelyn Arauz-Chamorro

.

.

The Central American Independence Festival takes place at Crotona Park in the Bronx. As far as I know, it’s taken place there since 2009.

.

Prior to that, The Central American Independence Festival, which takes place after the Parade, took place in other parts of The South Bronx.
