Taught by Garifuna Language Expert, Mr. Ruben Reyes along with a team of Garifuna Language Speakers, this Garifuna Language Course is designed to familiarize Garifuna Language Learners with the Basics of the Garifuna Language.

Students get the basics of Reading, Writing and Speaking the Garifuna Language.

The Garifuna for Non-Speakers Class takes place online and also in person in the Houston, Texas area. This Garifuna for Non-Speakers Class takes place over ten weeks.

The Garifuna for Non-Speakers Class is open to anyone interested in learning to speak the Garifuna Language. The online aspect of the Class opens it up to people all over the world.

There is a focus on Garifuna Grammar in the Garifuna for Non-Speakers Course.

On the website, there are various courses for people to take. Including a Garifuna Language Course for Adults (Different Levels based on Proficiency in the Garifuna Language) and another Garifuna Language Course for Children.

The Adult Garifuna Language Course consists of:

Ruben Reyes is a Garifuna Linguist, Author, Educator, and Garifuna Cultural Preservationist. He is widely recognized for his pioneering Trilingual Garifuna-English-Spanish Dictionary.

From Triunfo de La Cruz, Tela, Honduras, Mr. Reyes also organizes Garifuna Language education programs in Central America and the United States.

Mr. Ruben Reyes has also designed a Version of the International Garifuna Flag. With it’s Yellow, White and Black color scheme and Cultural Emblem in the center of this version of the Garifuna Flag, Mr. Reyes’s Garifuna Flag is often used in Garifuna Celebrations and Ceremonies.

His lifelong dedication has produced materials foundational to the documentation and revitalization of the Garifuna Language, making it accessible to future generations, linguists and educators. Mr. Reyes has also co-founded The Garifuna Museum of Los Angeles.
