Atlanta, Georgia – Atlanta-based Arts and Cultural Education Organization, Walagante Expo presents it’s First Annual Miss Garifuna Atlanta Beauty Pageant.

Timed to coincide with National Garifuna Heritage Month in The United States of America, The 2023 Miss Garifuna Atlanta Beauty Pageant will serve to carry out Walagante Expo’s stated goal of providing a rich, cultural and educational Garifuna experience to potential audiences.

I don’t have specific details as to what The 2023 Miss Garifuna Atlanta Beauty Pageant will consist of. My guess is that it will follow the model of other Garifuna Cultural Pageants across the United States of America (namely, Casa Yurumein’s Miss Garifuna New York City Cultural Pageant), and in Central America.

That is, the Contestants will wear traditional Garifuna clothing, offer an Introductory mostly Biographical Statement to the assembled Audience preferably in the Garifuna Language, and act out or mime aspects of the Garifuna experience.

About Walagante Expo

Founded and Led by Dorina Chimilio, The Atlanta-based Walagante Expo (“Walagante” translates to “Our Heritage” in the Garifuna Language) is an Education, Arts and Culture Organization that consists of a Traveling Garifuna Museum which showcases Garifuna Cultural Artifacts via Exhibitions at Libraries, Colleges, Universities, and other interested groups.

Walagante Expo was founded in the Atlanta area in 2019, I believe.
