Bronx, New York – Heartbreaking news out of the Bronx, where various news outlets reported that two Teenagers were shot at the Burke Ave Subway Station in the Allerton or Olinville section of the Bronx on Monday night, April 10th 2023.

CBS News reports that a fight took place between two groups onboard a Manhattan-bound #2 Train at about 10pm on Monday, April 10th 2023. The fight spilled out onto the subway station platform where one teenager was shot in the hip.

The other teenager, Kymani Woods, who was of Guatemalan Garifuna Heritage, was shot multiple times in the head, shoulder and arm. The New York Police Department stated that the shooter pushed Kymani Woods, down the subway station stairs and fired a couple more bullets into the teenager’s body.

My heart goes out to Ky-Mani Woods’s mother Ruth Martinez, who is of Guatemalan Garifuna Heritage.

I don’t know much about Ky-Mani Woods, but what I have been able to see is that he participated in sports as a child. Ky-Mani was a running back for the Bronx Bears in the Tri-State Youth Football Conference.

Ky-Mani apparently also took part in Mixed Martial Arts activities and based on tributes on Facebook and social media, had a village of family, friends and colleagues who supported and loved him.

Below is video of Kymani dancing the traditional Garifuna Punta Dance with his mother at a party.

I am Facebook friends with Ky-Mani W’s mother, Ruth. I have not been able to confirm much biographical information about Kymani Woods , as she understandably has not been able to get back to my attempt at contact.

Richard Davey, President of the MTA New York City Transit has stated at a briefing Press Conference with Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson that surveillance video from the Subway Station has been turned over to the Police. Hopefully it helps identify and catch the perpetrator or perpetrators.
