About Ky-Mani Woods

.

I don’t know much about Kymani Woods other than what was previously reported.

.

My heart goes out to Kymani’s mother Ruth, who is Guatemalan Garifuna, and whose American Dream has turned into an American Nightmare upon having to bury her son.

Kymani’s father passed away in December 2007 at the age of 35 when Kymani was two. Leaving Kymani’s mother Ruth to raise him as a single mother.

Last Week, Kymani’s mother Ruth, posted a video of Kymani momentarily dancing the traditional Garifuna Punta Dance with her. I will include it below for context, but seeing Kymani dancing with his mother is heartbreaking.

Note the expression on Kymani’s face after he takes off his Crocs shoes and, seeing the smartphone camera off to his side, begins to dance with his mother.

  1. It’s imperative we school the youth, especially OUR GARIFUNA YOUTH. On the importance of staying level headed in the face of adversity. Logic over emotion is the order of the day here. I reside in New York City, The Bronx specifically, and I am very much familiar with that specific area. To many hot heads are roaming the streets, both day and night. And with the weather getting even warmer and nice down here. Tensions and anger begin to flourish with some people, and they do not know how to act out here. This is a sad situation, but not the first nor the last. To many of our young (Garifuna)brothers are falling victim to this violent culture, on both sides. And it seriously needs to stop like NOW. What I do personally, is talk to these young (Garifuna) brothers and sisters too. And try and knock some sense into those youthful heads of theirs. May this young brother Rest In Peace in Heaven with his Dad, and I wish a speedy recovery for the other young man. Each one, teach one. My condolences goes out to Kymani’s mother, family members and friends.
