Brooklyn, New York – The New Group, Garifuna Americans in Law Enforcement Association invite First Responders, Civil Service members, and those who work in various capacities in Law Enforcement who are also of Garifuna Heritage to join them as they meet on a monthly basis.

Founded in 2017, The Garifuna Americans in Law Enforcement Association is a non-profit organization that includes New York City Police Officers, EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) / Ambulance Technician (Fire Department of New York), etc in New York City who are of Garifuna Heritage.

Mr. Jorge Rochez, who works in the NYPD Counter-Terrorism Unit and is a Garifuna from Sanaguina, Honduras, is a Co-Founder of this unique association.

The other is Mr. Sydney Valerio, who works as a Detective in Brooklyn for the NYPD. Mr. Valerio is a Garifuna from Belize and Honduras.

.

One of the goals of this Association is to put out a positive image of Police Officers, Correction Officers, Fire Department Members, etc to Youths who may be interested in a career in those fields.

.

They also look to share information about their respective fields with fellow members from the perspective of seasoned veterans in said fields.

.

Members of The Garifuna Americans in Law Enforcement Association recently made a trip to Honduras for African Heritage Month Festivities there.

.

They looked to help organize the Fraternal Police Organizations with the (According to the Garifuna Americans in Law Enforcement Association) 10 Garifuna Officers within the National Police Department.

.

The Garifuna Americans in Law Enforcement Association assert that of the approximately 15,000 Officers within the Honduran National Police Department, 10 are of Garifuna Heritage and didn’t know each other.

The Garifuna Americans in Law Enforcement Association meet on a Monthly basis. These meetings generally take place on the third or fourth Sunday of each month.

.

In fact, this month’s meeting is scheduled to take place on SATURDAY, May 26th 2018 at 5pm.

.

It will take place in the Community Meeting Space (Basement) of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Brownsville, Brooklyn.

.

This Association is not affiliated with the Church. They are simply using the Community Meeting Space to hold meetings. They haven’t had any events yet, but are planning a Barbecue on July 29th 2018 in Brooklyn.
