El Chaltén, Argentina – Lisandro la Banca, Son of accomplished Honduran Garifuna Musician, Emilio Arvarez Quioto, passed away in a tragic accident in Argentina on January 19th 2025. While climbing a Mountain, Lisandro fell from a height of approximately 90 meters.

Lisandro, 27 Years Old, was enthusiastic about Outdoor Activities and made his demise in El Chaltén, famous for being Argentina’s “National Capital of Trekking”. El Chaltén is known for being one of the most challenging areas to mountain climb in the world. Mountain sportsmen go there regularly.

According to the website of the Honduran Newspaper, El Heraldo, The accident took place while he was climbing a mountain. The cord that connected the two bolts of the relay broke, causing Lisandro to fall from about 90 meters high.

Lisandro lived in Argentina. He worked as a kayak guide and was known for his love of nature and outdoor activities.

Lisandro’s mother, Analia La Banca, in from Argentina. Her son Lisandro was involved in sports from a young age. He was involved in rowing and other activities. Those interests led Lisandro to become interested in clmbing and the mountains.

After Lisandro fell, his companions were able to recover and remove his body with the help of National Parks personnel. His body was transferred to the El Chaltén Medical Center and remained in the morgue until relatives claimed the body.

Emilio Alvarez Quioto, Lisandro’s father, is a founding member of the Diablos Negros band.

The Band expressed condolences and solidarity with Emilio and the family in their statement. “The entire Diablos Negros team stands in solidarity with them and would like to express our most sincere condolences in these difficult times.” the statement said.

At the time of publication, it is not known whether Lisandro would be buried in Honduras or in his mother’s native country of Argentina, where she and he lived.

In a statement published on his Facebook profile, Emilio Alvarez Quioto, Lisandro’s father grieved over his son’s passing. “The painful process of losing a son has no end…It will never be the same! Having him in your life was a gift from God…Today he is no longer there! But his memory and presence in the soul and heart of those who had the joy of knowing him is what we have left”

This past weekend, there was a Triduum (Triduo in Spanish) in Honduras for Lisandro. In the Roman Catholic tradition, The Triduum is three days of Prayer for the soul of the deceased.

Futhermore, in 2024, he received the appointment of Honorary Ambassador of Art and Culture of Honduras by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Honduras for more than 43 Years of being a benchmark of Honduran musical culture and exalting Honduran music outside it’s borders.
