Bishop Lawrence Nicasio of Belize, Undergoes Successful Surgery in the United States to Remove Cancerous Blockage in his Colon

St Louis, Missouri: Breaking Belize News, Channel 5 Belize, The Roman Catholic Diocese of Belize, Catholic TT, and other outlets have reported in early August 2022 that Bishop Lawrence Nicasio had surgery over the summer to remove blockage from his Colon. Upon further examination, the blockage was found to be Cancerous.

In a Press Release through Guadalupe Media, Bishop Nicasio revealed:

“I left Belize on the 6th of July with the intention of seeking medical attention. I was admitted at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri (in the United States), one of the Catholic Hospitals in the area. A CT Scan was performed and the results showed a blockage of the colon. Within a few days, and following medical advice, I underwent surgery to remove the blockage. The surgery was carried out on the 21st of July and it was successful. The blockage was removed, however it was found to be cancerous. As a consequence, further treatment is necessary, which is scheduled to begin soon.” – Bishop Lawrence Nicasio

Bishop Lawrence Nicasio is currently recovering at Regina Cleri, a home for retired Priests in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, Missouri. On September 21st 2022, he updated the public with a message regarding his circumstance.

In his Message, Bishop Lawrence Nicasio said, “My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ…I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for all your prayers for my speedy recovery. Those prayers have been felt by me as I see the Hand of God. His Holy Spirit guiding me in all things and all ways…Let us continue to pray, not only for me, but for the many people close to us who need healing.”

In an update dated, October 24th 2022, Bishop Nicasio states, “Your prayers and encouragement have constantly strengthened me, and I know I can count on your prayers and support as I continue to receive treatment.”

In his absence, Bishop Nicasio’s office is continuing to conduct business under the Leadership of Fathers Noel Leslie, Amelio Chi, and Jordan Gorgora.

Bishop Lawrence Nicasio is from Dangriga, Belize. He’s served as a Catholic Priest for over 30 years. Father Nicasio was appointed Bishop in January 2017. He was ordained as a Bishop in May 2017.

Being Garifuna continues to pray for the Bishop’s speedy recovery and return to his flock.
